Actually, this is an advice from PMP Exam Prep, Sixth Edition: Rita’s Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam. I found it extremely useful that I would like to share with everyone who is preparing for the PMP exam.

There is hardly any general definition for large projects. However, for the purpose of the exam, I would define large projects as multi-million dollars projects that involve at least 30-50 project team members, with various groups of stakeholders: customers, vendors, third-party companies etc.

PMP Exam Tips: Schedule your PMP Exam as Early as Possible

One of the more important steps in preparing for the PMP exam is to schedule you exam date as soon as you meet all the eligibility requirements. This will give you a specific date toward which you can work. Now you have deadline – a big red “X” on your calendar – and this will motivate you in your studies. If you don’t have the date scheduled you can always find excuses for not studying and delaying things. But having the date in your mind and calendar will drive you to study regularly.

You must use your time very effectively for the PMP exam. There are two aspects in time management for the PMP exam: time management while preparing for the exam and while taking the exam at test centers. Many articles were written about the second aspect, so in this article I will address some tips regarding preparation for the PMP exam.

Preparing and taking the PMP exam is a project itself. That is why you should plan for it very carefully and you should have strong commitment to achieve your goal: become PMP certified. There are 3 things you should follow in planning your preparation for the PMP exam.

1. Set a concrete time to take the exam

Every project has a begin date and an end date. Knowing the end date is essential. The worst way to prepare for the PMP exam is starting out without planning when you will take the exam. With the goal set, your commitment toward the exam will be much stronger.

In order to define when you will take the exam, you must know

  • How much time per week you can dedicate for preparation.
  • Your personal experience in project management.
